Nature is Thriving During Earth Day 2020 on the Glamorous Island of St. Barts
Around the world, travel has slowed and limitations on free movement have been imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19. For our global team of Experience Curators in particular, life has gotten increasingly quieter, providing us with meaningful time to reflect on what travel—and more specifically–what our regional locales really mean to us.
This week, we are on the glamorous Caribbean haven of St. Barts, with Myriam, our St Bart’s-based Experience Curator. The tiny island is typically bustling in March and April thanks to the world-famous St. Barts Bucket Regatta, but tourism restrictions have kept the shores still and the designer stores empty. But through the silence, the eco-system is thriving. This week, as the world celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Myriam shares how St. Barts has never looked more beautiful. There’s truly never been a better time to fall in love with St. Barts all over again. Here is Myriam’s perspective:
Home Life on St. Barts
Bonjour, from St. Barts! While our island stands still, I have been taking the opportunity to spend more time with my family. My two children, eleven and eight, are very busy with homework, however, on St. Barts, our kids don’t have online teaching available, so parents are heavily relied upon to ensure their studies continue! We break up the day with exercise, playing in the garden and cooking. I usually don’t have the time to cook their favorites, so I have been taking advantage of that! They both LOVE my Gratin Dauphinoise.
Low Tourism Makes Way for Nature
As for myself, I am an avid runner, and so I have been hitting the trails every day. Running is so important to me, physically and mentally. Most recently on my runs, I have been awe-struck at the local environment. Nature is flourishing! The beaches, in particular, are magical. The pale sand outlined by the vibrant turquoise sea water looks the most dramatic I have ever seen it. The ocean, thanks to the lack of boats, looks like glass. In all my time living on the island, I have never seen it look so beautiful. And while we are unable to go to the beaches during this time, but I can only image how abundant the turtles and fish are at this moment. As we celebrate Earth Day this week, it truly goes to show how even the worst of situations can have a silver lining.
Vue De Rêves is Calling
I have been heading to Cuvée’s Villa Vue De Rêves property almost daily to deep clean and perform maintenance during this quiet time. The view has never looked more pristine or serene. It is breathtaking. I can’t wait for guests to visit us here again to enjoy the stunning natural beauty the pandemic has blessed us with. Our private catamaran experience over the sparkling clear ocean would be unforgettable right now, diving and snorkeling would be the best way to experience the magnitude of our ocean life. I would also definitely recommend a private helicopter tour over the island to really take in the pristine surroundings. I miss interacting with our guests every day so much and I cannot wait to welcome them back soon. There is so much to look forward to!
Reste en bonne santé,
Myriam
