Venture beyond Baja’s beaches with our insider’s guide to Los Cabos. Silvia can’t wait to show you all her Cabo secrets, from epic natural sanctuaries and traditional decorative handcrafts made by local artisans, to the hid away gems of the evolving culinary scene.
Meet Silvia
Silvia shares the outdoor Los Cabos life with her husband Victor and two lovely dogs. As a twenty-year resident, she is passionate about the special places and people in this outdoor paradise, happily sharing insider knowledge and local love for her beautiful corner of the world.
Off-The-Beaten-Path
Outdoor adventurers should explore the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range, designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. Along the hiking trails, which vary in length and difficulty, you’ll see our region’s distinctive eco-mix of granite canyons and semitropical forests, including more than 900 plant species from cacti to palms. And the string of East Cape villages Miraflores, Los Barriles and El Triunfo may be slowly attracting new visitors. But for now, their sleepy streets and simple, colorful architecture remain a living link to our history.
The Idyllic Sunset Spot
The little town of Todos Santos is one of only 30 Mexican communities to be awarded the “Pueblo Magico” designation for retaining authentic historic and charm, and its Cerritos Beach is the perfect spot to revel in a dramatic Pacific Ocean sunset.
Must-Try Tastes
Without a doubt, you want tacos and the more authentic, the better, like what you find at The Hangman, Las Guacamayas, or La Lupita. Be sure to try the crispy fish, a taco that originated in Baja and reflects the important connection between our everyday life and the sea.
Favorite Local Events
If food and drink is a big part of your adventure dream, the annual Sabor a Cabo is a spectacular gastronomic festival that lets you sample what Baja has to offer by showcasing local ingredients, chefs, restaurants and wineries, while Art Walk San Jose del Cabo is a weekly chance to stroll from gallery to gallery, viewing work from artists across Mexico.
Cabo’s Best Margaritas
Every restaurant and cantina has its own margarita, and our Cuvée team makes some of the best, so it’s fun to go sampling. But don’t miss the contemporary grapefruit and rosemary composition at Casa Calavera, a beachside cantina known for its modern Día de los Muertos theme; crusty salted classics from the bar at Comal, featuring panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez; and ACRE’s extra tart version, crafted from ingredients grown on the surrounding 25 acres of organic farmland.
The Best Tequila to Take Home
As our region’s iconic spirit, there are plenty of great tequila options. But you’ll dazzle your friends if you bring them Reserva de la Familia Cuervo Añejo, hand-selected from the Cuervo family’s private collection and served at our Cuvée tequila tastings. It is the world’s first extra-añejo tequila, using only blue agave harvested at peak maturity and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years.
Secluded Beaches
Although my husband and I enjoy all the beach activities, from surfing and volley ball to fishing and paddle boarding, there are times we like to slow in down in more secluded spots. Los Barriles and Buenas Vista have quiet flat beaches that are a gorgeous oasis of expansive green water and true blue sky.
Where to Find Authentic Cabo Mementos
When you want to bring home little piece of local craftsmanship, the marketplace setting of Plaza Artesanos at San Jose del Cabo is a wonderful place to source handcrafts and textiles from over 70 makers.
