Benvenuto, again! After more than a year of dreaming about winding Chianti vineyards, perfectly paired glasses of red with fresh-made pasta, shopping Via Tournabouni, and relaxing in your very own luxury Italian villa rental, idolized Tuscan musings are becoming reality this summer.
This moment is much awaited – with newly announced protocols, you have the opportunity to bypass the 10-day quarantine that has been cautioning our hopeful Tuscan travelers. As the world is reopening to international travel, we are here to walk you through the details of accessing one of our most cherished destinations.
The Latest Updates on How to Access the Beloved Italia
Per previous regulations, visitors from the U.S. and other low-risk countries (Canada, Australia, Japan, and Singapore) can visit Italy regardless of reason for travel but need to show a negative COVID test and quarantine for 10 days.
In the latest news from the Italian government, there are new (and very exciting!) updates to share. U.S. travelers that take special “COVID-tested flights” no longer need to quarantine upon arriving in Italy. This provides a new level of flexibility, opening up Italian travel to a whole new group of thrilled travelers. Let’s break down the specifics of how to find a COVID-tested flight.
Note: Visitors from Europe, Israel and Britain can visit Italy without quarantining, regardless of their reason for travel, but do need to show proof of a negative COVID test.
Getting to Tuscany on a COVID-Tested Flight
This new flight option opens up a world of possibilities for travelers seeking a more seamless experience. The specific protocol of a COVID-tested flight is intended to allow for the safest possible transportation as you travel overseas. Here is the step-by-step of what to expect:
- Before your flight: Those flying must show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test (timing dependent upon the flight selected) and a rapid test must also be taken right before flying.
- During your flight: All are required to wear a face mask (COVID-19 vaccinated fliers are not exempt) during the entirety of the flight.
- Arrival in Italy: Travelers will be directed to a rapid testing area for temperature screening and another rapid test. Upon receiving a negative test result, travelers are free to enter Italy without the need to quarantine.
These airlines are offering COVID-tested flights with the following direct flights:
Delta Airlines
Atlanta (ATL) to Rome (FCO)
Atlanta (ATL) to Milan (MXP)
New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO)
New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP)
American Airlines
New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO)
New York (JFK) to Milan (MXP)
Upon arriving in Milan or Rome, you can drive, take the train, or enjoy a short flight to Tuscany. Only four hours from the Milan airport and three and a half hours from the Rome airport, you will enjoy a welcoming ride through the Italian countryside if you select on-ground transportation, on the way to your luxury Italian villa.
